East Coast Extreme Park (Pt.2)

Visited the park over the weekend. The course look almost ready. Only thing, we still can’t ride it. The supervisor on site does not allow it. Some insurance issue.

Anyway, those who were present on that day got a chance to roll around a little before we got the boot. The cement is really smooth. Nice feeling throughout the park. The only scary course is the Vert Bowl. 12ft deep, you won’t want to trip and fall in. The combo bowl is just super nice. Mostly 6ft all around. I believe this park will be one hot spot to chill out. Some photos taken with Fyrol.

Away from BMX (4 - 14 Dec 2008)

Once in awhile, we have to do something different.

I took a trip up North to Northern China. To a place where temperature numbers look similar to ours, but with a negative sign in front. At the same time, to experience the northern Chinese culture and whatever I bum into.

Arrived in Shen Yang International Airport. Time checked, 1730H. Sun already gone to bed. It was dark and gloomy. Pile of dirty ice can be seen at the side of the runway. At the immigration, people were dressed heavily and looking tired. Everyone can be heard whispering about the cold. At the receiving hall, a big crowd awaited in their dark suits and jacket ready to hug their arriving guest. The atmosphere was sweet. I felt a sudden chill down my spine when someone muttered the temperature was –20c outside. That’s when I realised how scantily dressed I am.

My host advise me to put on whatever I have. It was a choice of wear or die. Like a stupid hero, I put on my ski jacket and out we went. The bus was waiting 10m from the airport entrance, so it was a short exposure to the temperature. I only received the real taste when I arrived in the city. From the city bus stop, we have to catch a taxi in the bitter and windy cold to my hotel. Freaking temperature was so low, accompanied by strong wind made my 10mins wait an everlasting one. My face was so bloodless numb that I couldn’t speak properly.

Once in the hotel, I was out in a jiffy to get more warm clothes. The 100% cotton thermal inner wear I bought in Singapore for S$119, did not help at all. At a nearby market, I bought another thermal inner wear for only rmb45 (equivalent to S$10). It kept me warm throughout the trip. I had to put aside my tight jeans because there is no way I can squeeze in with so many thick inner pants. After some tips on how to prepare myself for the cold, I was ready to go live like a local.

In Shen Yang, the bus ride from the airport to city cost S$3.20. A 30mins taxi ride cost only S$5.50. As for accommodation, you can get a clean budget private room for S$15 (Double bed with only walking space around the bedside, with attached toilet). A bigger room that is double the size of your HDB bedroom cost only $30 (breakfast included). Everything is affordable.

Shen Yang is a modern city. Amazing skyscraper, posh boutiques, luxuries cars etc.. with usual Carrefour supermarket, KFC, Macdonalds, Pizzas, Starbuck etc.. In the night, there are no shortage of clubs, pubs and KTVs to keep you rocking. The ladies there are amazing to the eyes. Their appearance and how they dress can drown you. Very fashionable and they are surprisingly slim and tall.

On the 2nd day, it was ski time. I headed to Qi Pan Shan where the ski facilities are. S$65 for a whole day, inclusive of ski equipment. Nothing much to talk about accept fun fun fun and crash crash crash…

On the 3rd day, I headed up North to RaoHe Xian. I visited a small town at the border between China and Russia. When I reached there, the river dividing the 2 countries was frozen, but not hard enough for travelling as yet. Once it is ready, you can actually drive or even walk over the river to Russia, at a specific path. The temperature was –25c.

There is a market for Raccoon fur in the town. The resident there breed raccoon in cages. Once they are developed, they are electrocuted and stripped off from their fur. The people basically peel the entire fur from the flesh in 1 piece. The way the fur came off is extremely sick to watch. The bloody naked dead raccoon are then left in the cold to freeze. The remains are sold off for the meat. It is a sad sight to see a live raccoon trying to peep at their naked comrades lying motionless on top their cage. The people said raccoons are territorial animal. They will kill and eat each other if left alone. That is why they are kept in individual cage. See video for live and dead raccoon. The killing part was not recorded. Thinking of it, remind me of Hannibal and SAW the movie. Okay I need a moment to myself. Feel free to watch the simple and not related to BMX video.

Good times in Kuala Lumpur

On 28 Nov 2008, we decided to make a road trip up North to visit the new skatepark in Putra Jaya.

The road bums were; Ryan (Youngest dude in the tour), Siong Wei (the horny cute guy cum driver), Lawrence (cameraman), Cartoon (small but big tricks), CK (driver), Huffy (driver cum video), Simon (driver), Alex (navigator) and Gerald (navigator).

With the help of google map and Alex’s Nokia N95 GPS, we were able to find the skatepark with super ease. The route took us through unfamiliar no sign-board road, village, plantation and dense jungle. Anyway, it was a good sight seeing drive. Definitely nicer than driving on the boring highway with superbikes overtaking us.

Putra Jaya skatepark is really deserted and far from 7-11. Maybe once it is completed, we should see more people and shops. The park which is located beside a cemetry, comprises of a big spread out cement park. Some dirt jumps for BMX and MTB that is still under construction. A giant area for a halfpipe and mini ramp. According to the locals, the pipe and ramp may not happen due to budget. Other than those, nobody even cares. Finally, if you are riding at the big cement park for the first time. Check for on coming traffic and check your blind spot all the time. Accident is very common because there are no fix route, signs, zebra crossing or traffic lights. Riders, skaters, bladers and gay walking come from all direction at high speed.

We didn’t spend the whole trip at Putra Jaya. The next day, we headed for Shah Alam. The place is now super crowded because KFC and Pizza hut set up their branches there. Best of all, they are 24hrs. Sad to say, the park only on its light till 12midnight. Worst of all, the lights are orange and dim, making it hard to ride! sial…”is that how you spell it”

Finally, we want to thanks Mr Ryan’s mom and dad for making the trip possible. Without his mom’s turbo charged SUV, we wouldn’t even make it to the causeway. Without his dad’s 5 stars accomodation, we would be sleeping in some drain and showering in the mosquito larvae infested puddle.

Here is a video specially edited by Huffy Pro…..enjoy!

North East Rider

With the many injuries that hit Huffy left right centre, he is still able to get some pieces of his tricks together. Infact, sometimes you wonder if he actually sustain any injury before. Well, I guess riding is all up in your head. If you think you can do it, you will do it. Don’t let morale pull you down. Morale is only temporary. Your mindset in your head is the one that control your everything. Go out and ride.
A contribution from Huffy himself. Self stuntman, self recording and self editing.

Bonus clip from Encik Nizam. Same as above, Nizam has a history of leg injuries. A cast that cause his toes to twist and turn. Thanks to the poor workmanship of some doctor. While I post this, Nizam is already rockin and rollin with his bike. A man with the right attitude and vision. Wise man say, don’t throw away the brake mount just because you ride brakeless. You may need it one day. A video from Nizam himself in his younger days hehe…

BeatBox vs Flatland

What happen when you put BeatBoxer and Flatlander together?

You get a super show out of the people themselves. Rider with their bikes and BeatBox with their mic. Sound like Bike N Mic. Bike N Mic originated from Martti Kuoppa, Viki Gomez and Electro. Since the organiser do not have enough budget to get the real BNM in, they invited the KGB Flow riders to do it. The end results was ????? check it out yourself…..

Video from my dry box

With some motivation from the guys, I force my lazy ass from the sofa and start going through the vacuum box. Took out the cassette tapes for BMX Masters in Colonge, Asian X Games in Shanghai and Asian Indoor Games in Macau. On my PC and start editing. Being an amateur myself, you won’t see special effect matching Steven Spielberg leg hair. You only see raw live video of riders themselves. No stunt doubles either.

Just a little info on the videos. BMX Masters, I had Mat Dagu and LCS with me. In fact, some of the clips was shot by LCS. I did not include the Park, Mini Ramps, Vert or Flatland sections in the video. Bascially, my music ran out, I mean the song is too short to include more clips……….ya ya lame excuse!

Asian X Games, I think I had a good time filming there. The after party was really good. Maybe the night life in Shanghai was just amazing. And when you have so many great riders to party with, its SIMPLY THE BEST! by Tina Turner. I should have video how Tobias threw CK out of the lift like a teddy bear during a Lift Blanket Party at the club. BTW the lift got stuck in the processed due to over-load.

Asian Indoor Games, little Vegas in Asia. Not much filming because I was appointed as the Team Manager. Busy busy busy….definitely not a fun job. No time to party hard. With the strict rules, I can’t even act like myself hehe… The super night life in Macau and the temptation was killing me. I had to break the rules just to stay alive, its survival. I had a good section of Firdaus on his skateboard, believe me, he is really good!

Okay, enough said. Watch it…..

Rahman in USA

Hey Guys! just got news from Rahman. He send us some pictures of the Dirt Jumps in California. Forgot what name it was. Anyway, he said you need to pay to ride them. US$2 for whole day. Cheap Cheap only…

Well, looks like Rahman is having a good time.

Bro! update us with more riding pictures. And you better come back with some big tricks in your pocket. We want to see them.

Well wishes to LCS for a speedy recovery

After a bad fall at the somerset skatepark that pretty much destroyed his left leg (fractured bone in 5 areas, his shin, ankle and feet), LCS is determined to get back on his bike once his leg recover. After a few months, with a titanium rod in his left shin, LCS got back into the riding scene and started going overseas for competition. When he return from the Korean competition (he came in 15th position in Busan), he rode as usual at his usual hangout. On 10th Oct 2008, he went down to Somerset skatepark to ride. Luck fell apart when he was doing his usual nose manual over the fun box. He went over his bar and landed on his injured leg. The impact broke his leg again.

I was told, some of his old injured bones that has healed, broke again. Along with that, some new bones gave way as well. LCS was devastated.

Below is a short video of LCS before he sustain any injury. We got the video together in 33mins, to be exact. We wish him a speedy recovery and get well soon. From Gerald Leow, Chee Keong, Huffy and Simon.

Remember FIBUA?

After many upgrade and changes to my computer, many of the good old files were deleted or by accident. It is always good to do backup. I had some of the files burn into CD. Here is a short video of a flatland contest held in Oct 2002. The quality is rather poor, but you can still figure out how young the guys were. Check out how the bike look then and you will recall how heavy they were. I think almost everyone in the video can still be spotted riding in City Link or somewhere in Singapore today. The event was held in Jurong Green Community Club. Enjoy!
